This is the Martian Robot’s first appearance in the Mickey Mouse series. It debuted in 1957’s “Mars and Beyond” which was an episode of the Disneyland television series. He was also featured as a villain in 1999’s Mickey Mouse Works in a short called “Mickey’s Mechanical Mouse.”

Final Grade: A
This isn’t a high-concept or complicated story but it’s as effective of a comedy as any short in the series. It’s just funny with a simple premise that pays off. Mickey and his pals take part in a race where cheating is both accepted and encouraged. However, it’s Mickey who’s determined to compete and win fair-and-square. It also allows for a variety of characters to cheat in ways that stay true to who they are. For example, Scrooge uses his money, Von Drake employs a robot, Goofy misunderstands the race completely, and so on… If you want to throw a bunch of characters in an episode and get the most out of them, this is how you do it.
