Season 4, Episode 6: “Shipped Out” 8/25/17
Starring: Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse
Costarring: Donald Duck, Daisy Duck, Goofy, and Pluto
Setting: A luxury cruise liner
Plot: Mickey and Minnie’s stress-free getaway is anything but when their VIP Experience puts them on an intense itinerary of activities.
The cruise liner’s colour scheme and body is very similar to the fleet of real-life, Disney-owned ships.
The tune Goofy is singing is his own rendition of popular folk song, “99 Bottles of Beer on the Wall.” Although its exact origins are unknown, it can be traced to America in the early twentieth century and is popular in Canada as well.
The VIP Experience includes cocktails, a surf machine, water slides, bungee jumping, pool volleyball, a skydiving machine, rock climbing, an all-you-can-eat buffet, zip lining, can-can dancing, paintballing, parasailing, and fireworks.
The final scene offers a nice, postcard-esque image of Mickey and Minnie stranded on a deserted island flanked by some colourful parrots. However, in case you were wondering, the tropical birds are NOT stand-ins for Jose, Pierre, Fritz, or Michael from Disneyland’s Enchanted Tiki Room.
Final Grade: C+
The only saving grace for this episode was its opening sequence including all of the series’ main characters. Other than that, it was a plotless montage of uninspired action scenes. Erica the Cruise Director and her crew of burly rhinos didn’t add much either. This season could use a break from the Mickey/Minnie dominated and, instead, give Donald, Goofy, or some other character a chance to shine.
