Season 2, Episode 9: “The Boiler Room” 10/2/14
Starring: Mickey Mouse
Co-starring: Minnie Mouse
Setting: Minnie’s apartment building
Plot: When Minnie’s apartment building’s water heater is on the fritz, she enlists Mickey to fix it. But first, he must contend with the rumoured “monster” in the boiler room.
Released in October, this short coincides with the Halloween season.
There’s no monster in the boiler room. It’s just an angry water heater.
Why is the water heater angry? It’s in a great deal of pain because someone left a wrench tightened on one of its pipes and the pressure has him all backed up.
Who left the wrench there and why? And, where is the apartment’s superintendent?
There’s a great payoff for the skeleton tenant who just has “dry skin.” Once the water is back on, we seem him in the tub and it’s revealed that he’s a muscle-bound hunk!
Minnie’s apartment is the same as Mickey’s in Gasp! Although, it’s clear Mickey no longer lives here since he refers to it as “your building’s water heater.”
This is also the third different apartment building we’ve seen Minnie living in after Fire Escape and Eau de Minnie.
Final Grade: C+
This is just another stock episode where Minnie is helpless and Mickey is the hero… *yawn.* As this season’s “Halloween” episode, it’s also a significant step back from the previous year’s Ghoul Friend. I’m also not all that interested in spending a whole three minutes in a dingy, old apartment building’s basement when we just got back from sailing the high-seas with Donald and traversing the Indian countryside with Mickey.
