Mickey Mouse Short: Dumb Luck | A Waltz Through Disney
Season 4, Episode 18: “Dumb Luck” 6/8/18
Starring: Mickey Mouse and Goofy
Costarring: Minnie Mouse and Pluto
A Cameo by: Cyril Proudbottom
Setting: Around town

Plot: When a raucous game of tag between Goofy and Pluto results in a broken mirror, Mickey is struck with seven years of bad luck.
Short Stuff

Mickey’s fishin’ hole looks a lot like the titular Swimmin’ Hole from the Season Four premiere.

The horse that kicks Mickey is Cyril Proudbottom from the “Wind and the Willows” segment of The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad.  It’s jarring to see the normally happy-go-lucky horse carry such an irritable and cross demeanor.

When the grapefruit squirts Mickey in the eye, the first thing that comes to mind is “PULP MOVES, BABY!”

The lucky penny Mickey finds is dated 1966.  The most significant thing occurring that year in Mickey Mouse/Disney history is the passing of Walt Disney.
Final Grade: B-
There’s not much story here other than putting Mickey through a series of slapsticky pratfalls.  With the plot revolving around bad luck, it would’ve been an excellent opportunity for a Donald-centric episode because, you know… “who gets stuck with all the bad luck?”  But, alas… the series belongs to Mickey and 90% of the episodes are going to focus on him.
