Mickey Mouse Short: Doggone Biscuits | A Waltz Through Disney
Season 2, Episode 14: “Doggone Biscuits” 1/16/15
Starring: Minnie Mouse and Pluto
Co-starring: Mickey Mouse

A Cameo By: Pete
Setting: Around town

Plot: When Mickey goes out of town, Minnie is tasked with dog-sitting Pluto.  But when she overserves him dog biscuits, Minnie realizes they both her and Pluto bit off more than they can chew.
Short Stuff:
This is Minnie’s third short with top billing and Pluto’s third appearance in all.

Who does Mickey love more?  He gives both Pluto and Minnie hearty goodbye kisses but he comes home early because he misses his pup.

Minnie giving Pluto a sweater harkens back to the classic short Pluto’s Sweater (1949) where she knits him an ugly pink sweater.

Among the pictures hanging on Minnie’s wall of herself and Mickey, another with Daisy and a windmill – a reference to Clogged perhaps?

Much like Monica from Friends (1994 – 2004), the svelte Minnie used to be overweight.  Who knew?

Fat Pluto uttering “nah” is the funniest moment of the episode.  Is this also the first time we’ve heard Pluto speak?

Minnie always looks good but has she ever been more fetching than she is in her mail woman’s uniform?  Oooh, la and la!

Here, Pete makes a very brief appearance as a dog catcher. It’s a role he also played in the classic shorts The Mad Dog (1932) and The Worm Turns (1937).  He even played the eponymous Dognapper (1934). He hates dogs!

Somehow, Pluto managed to drag one of the Moai (a head from Easter Island) in the items he collected in the hammock.

Exercise and a healthy diet is the best way to lose weight and get in shape but, here. Pluto proves that extreme exercise alone works as well.
Final Grade: B

I’ve been hard on Minnie (especially questioning the fact that she’s the only one besides Mickey to get official top billing in the new series of shorts) but this proved to be a solid, if unspectacular, outing.  I just loved her dynamic with Pluto – it was cute and forced her to play a more active role while also giving her the chance to play off of a new character.  Pluto was great too – he just brings a unique energy to the shorts.  Let’s hope we get to see some more new pairings in the future.
