Season 3, Episode 1: “Coned!” 7/17/15
Starring: Mickey Mouse and Pluto
Setting: Mickey’s House and Around Town
Plot: In an act of solidarity with the “coned” Pluto, Mickey decides to don a cone himself.
This is Pluto’s fourth appearance and the second in which he wears a cone (Dog Show).
We’re not sure why he’s wearing a cone but there are stitched involved.
Along those same lines, Pluto also suffers significant bodily harm in Doggone Biscuits. Pluto is becoming typecast.
Mickey has a note on his refrigerator to “Call Dave.” Who’s Dave??? Is it a shout-out to director Dave Wasson?
The plunger through the television screen and the pizza box steering wheel stood out in a barrage of silly sight gags.
In case you were wondering, that black cat looked a little to mangy to be Figaro. Although, he could’ve been just really into his role.
Final Grade: C+
The episode peaks with Mickey’s opening Ragtime song-and-dance number and just goes downhill from there. I’m sensing a trend with Pluto with him suffering one horrific injury after the other. Mickey wearing the cone was a nice gesture but there was way too many explosions and violence for my delicate sensibilities. I mean, do we really want to think of Mickey Mouse and Pluto having “shattered legs?”
We love Disney. Period.
