Mickey Mouse Short: Bottle Shocked | A Waltz Through DIsney
Season 2, Episode 17: “Bottle Shocked” 4/24/15
Starring: Mickey Mouse
Co-starring: Minnie Mouse

Setting: Monte Carlo, Monaco

Plot: Mickey encounters various obstacles while bringing back a bottle of Limonade Gazeuse for him and Minnie to enjoy during the race.

Short Stuff:

Despite this short taking place in Monaco, all the dialogue is in English in lieu of French.

This is the eleventh “Destination Short” (i.e. taking place in a country other than the US of A):
Yodelburg – Switzerland

Croissant de Triomphe – Paris, France
Tokyo Go – Tokyo, Japan
Pandamonium – Beijing, China
O’ Sole Minnie – Venice, Italy

O Futbol – Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
Mumbai Madness - Mumbai, India

Mickey Monkey – Africa (continent)
Clogged – Amsterdam, Netherlands

Al Vivo Rojo – Pamplona, Spain
Bottle Shocked – Monte Carlo, Monaco

Mickey and Minnie are attending the world famous Grand Prix de Monaco which is a Formula One car race that is held on the Circuit de Monaco.

The bottle Mickey gets is of Limonade Gazeuse which is some sort of fancy, carbonated lemonade drink.

That familiar sounding ringtone on Mickey’s cell phone is “Minnie’s Yoo Hoo.”  It was first heard in the classic short Mickey’s Follies (1929) and served as the theme song to all of Mickey’s theatrical shorts until 1933.

Of the many obstacles and diversions Mickey faced, my favourite was the runaway piano of which had the audacity to follow him through that narrow alley way and down a few flights of stairs.

I’m not sure of the veracity of Mickey winning the Grand Prix despite not driving a car and causing a multi-vehicle crash.

Final Grade: B

Despite the beautiful washed-out pastels of the Monte Carlo Harbour, this short felt a little flat.  The globe-trotting, “destination” gimmick tends to cure the ills of a trite Mickey/Minnie storyline (see Al Rojo Vivo) but this one never quite gets there.  Still, it’s better than had Mickey’s odyssey occurred in some random city with no personality or character.
