Christmas Maximus (2004)
Starring: Max, Mona and Goofy
Setting: Goofy’s House
Plot: An adult Max is concerned that his dad, Goofy, will embarrass him as he’s bringing his girlfriend, Mona, home for Christmas.
Jason Marsden of Step By Step fame reprises his role from A Goofy Movie (1995) and An Extremely Goofy Movie (2000) as Max. While Kellie Martin, who played Max’s love interest, Roxanne, from A Goofy Movie voices Max’s girlfriend, Mona, in this short.
Goofy has a cell phone that transforms into a rotary yet, Max is still using a payphone.
The majority of the short takes place within a musical montage set to Tom Leonard’s “Make Me Look Good” (which is quite popular on the internets).
The picture of Max on the mantle in his graduation garb looks to be from college which makes him a full-grown Goof!
Putting a Bow on It:
It would be easy to pooh-pooh the contemporary shorts and, in a lot of ways, they are inferior to the classics (especially with the chintzy CGI – blech!) but this is an example of one of the good ones. The Goofy and Max relationship is just sweet and the short does a great job of capturing the “coming home for the holidays” theme. Plus, I just love the reveal at the end where we discover that Mona is a little “goofy” herself (but is this the first time Max has seen her smile???)
We love Disney. Period.
