The Nutcracker (1999)

Setting: Maria’s Dream

Plot: Mickey, Minnie and the gang take part in a whimsical retelling of the classic story.

British funny man, Jon Cleese, narrates the short.

The players and their roles are as follows:
Mickey Mouse: The Nutcracker
Minnie Mouse: Maria
Ludwig Von Drake: Grandpa Drosselmeyer/King of the Sugar Plum Fairies
Donald Duck: The Mouse King
Goofy: The Magical Snow Fairy

As the Mouse King, Donald dons the iconic Mouse Ears and a pair of buck teeth.

Donald only goes forward with the play because the narrator tells him “The Mouse King wins…”  But of course, the Mouse King ends up losing – much to Donald’s chagrin.

Putting a Bow on It:
Of all the Mickey Mouse Works cartoons I’ve reviewed, this one is my favourite.  This is a fun adaptation of the famed Nutcracker Suite highlighted by the wit of Jon Cleese.
