Mickey’s Christmas Chaos (2000)
Starring: Mickey Mouse, Pluto and Mortimer Mouse
Cameos by: Chip ‘n Dale, Scrooge McDuck, Huey, Dewey and Louie, Pete and Goofy
Setting: Mickey’s neighbourhood

Plot: Mickey and Mortimer engage in a Christmas decorating contest.

This short first appeared in the Disney Channel Series, Mickey Mouse Works (1999 – 2000).

From Wikipedia: “Mickey Mouse Works was created to recreate the golden age of Disney's animated shorts, featuring some of Disney’s most popular characters. By using basic colors and the original sound effects, tremendous effort was put forth to capture the look and feel of classic Disney.” (more on this later…)

Mickey’s house is of the same model that appears in Mickey’s Toontown at Disneyland.

That’s Mortimer Mouse (even though he’s clearly drawn more like a rat) playing Mickey’s neighbour and rival.  He first appeared in the 1936 short, Mickey’s Rival as another suitor for Minnie.

Mortimer is voiced by Maurice LaMarche but if you close your eyes really hard, you’d swear it was Jon Lovitz. 

During the “Wreath Off,” Chip ‘n Dale briefly appear using Mickey’s wreath as a hamster wheel.

Uncle Scrooge and Hewey, Dewey and Louie appear as carolers in Mickey’s impromptu Christmas décor while Mortimer uses Pete as a trumpeting angel hanging from a tree.

Mickey and Mortimer also fight over Goofy dressed as Santa.

Putting a Bow on It:
I’m sorry but I just can’t get past the Mickey Mouse Works description from its Wikipedia page.  I know any yahoo can edit it but its premise is just laughable.  How can they say “tremendous effort was put forth to capture the look and feel of classic Disney”?  The animation looks like crap!  This cartoon came out in 2000 while “classic Disney” like Polar Trappers, for example, was made in 1938 – that’s over sixty years ago!  I don’t care how different the budgets are, advances in technology should be such that a cartoon in 2000 should look better or as good as one made in 1938 -  especially when “tremendous effort was put forth…” to make it look like the ones made sixty years ago!!!  Lying, incompetent or both???
