Shade #10: Mickey’s Delayed Date (1947) Starring: Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse and Pluto Setting: Nighttime in the City Plot: Minnie is irate with Mickey when he oversleeps for their dance date. But, when she gives him a second chance, it’s a mad dash to meet her before it’s too late. Box of Chocolates: This is the last short where Walt Disney voices Mickey. This cartoon’s storyline is similar to that of the new Mickey short, Bad Ear Day. Unbeknownst to Mickey, it’s not a mere dance party but a “Hard Times Costume Party.” This is Minnie’s last speaking role in a classic Disney short. The Morning After:
Everything always works out for Mickey. Of course, it also helps when you have a trusty pup like Pluto by your side. But how much of this is luck and how much of it is a form of Karma? You see, Mickey always treats everyone well (unlike Donald) and curries a lot of favour this way – Minnie gives him a second chance, Pluto is always ready to lend a paw, etc. Then, there’s also a lot of luck like when Mickey’s tuxedo gets ruined to the point that it’s now perfect for the party when he would’ve otherwise been overdressed. However, when comparing the two, I find Mickey a little boring while Donald is infinitely more interesting.
