Night 1: Haunted House (1929)
Starring: Mickey Mouse
Setting: A Haunted House
Plot: Caught in a storm, Mickey is forced to seek refuge in a haunted house.
Tricks and/or Treats:
The blinking window “eyes” remind me of another famous haunted house – that of the Amityville Horror (1979).
There’s nothing creepier than when that hooded spook with those long, gnarled fingers closes in on Mickey.
All the spook wants though is for Mickey to play piano for an impromptu dance party for him and his skeleton pals.
Many skeletons join in to play their own instruments but none stood out more than a couple of them beating the butt drums with some bone sticks.
The cool thing about this short is that it plays a lot like a music video. The Head-Spook-in-Charge intimidates Mickey into tickling the ivories but these creeps are more interested in dancing than scaring. The next time Mickey attends a dead man’s party, he should remember to leave his body at the door…
We love Disney. Period.
