Night 10: How to Haunt a House (1999) Starring: Goofy Co-starring: Donald Duck Cameos by: Mickey Mouse and Clarabelle Cow Setting: Goofy’s House and a Haunted House. Plot: In another installment of Goofy’s famous “How To…” series, the Dippy Dawg learns us how to haunt a house. Watch the Disney Short hereTricks and/or Treats:
This short originally aired in Mickey Mouse Works (1999 – 2000) and later appeared in its spin-off House of Mouse (2001 – 2003). Goofy perishes and becomes a ghost after getting hit by a car. Goofy has a corn-on-the-cob rack next to his front door. Goofy’s death is only temporary – just long enough to demonstrate how to haunt a house. As an homage to Goofy’s ghost hunting company in The Lonesome Ghosts (1937) and the eponymous gorilla in Donald Duck and the Gorilla (1944), the newspaper bin and the dump truck has an “Ajax” logo on it. Goofy’s newspaper is appropriately called the “Goofy Gazette.” One of the things Mickey Mouse Works did right was include long forgotten and seldom used characters like Clarabelle Cow. Goofy once again dons the chains he famously wore as Jacob Marley in A Christmas Carol (1983). Donald too gets hit by a car and transforms into a ghost. RIP: In a bit of a role reversal, it’s fun to see the easily agitated Donald impervious and oblivious to Goofy’s haunting… at least for a spell. These two have always been my favourite pairing. I also love the morbid (albeit temporary) subject matter of actually killing off two of Disney’s bigger stars.
