The trailer for the Disney film, Into The Woods, has been released! From the producer of Wicked, Marc Platt (YEAH!) and Chicago director, Rob Marshall (YEAH AGAIN!), the Stephen Sondheim Broadway musical, about what happens after the "happily ever after" in fairy tales, is due to release January 2015.
I must admit, I had my doubts about Disney doing this musical. I had even more when I read about the changes that had to be made in the film. It's funny, since I'm usually someone that is totally fine when movies, which are adapted from books, change the story. However, this is a musical that is well-known for it's adult themes, so to strip some away for the film, my Sondheim-lovin' roots pretty much lost it. I own the DVD of the stage production (with the Broadway legends Bernadette Peters, Mandy Pantinkin, and Joanna Gleason). One of my favorite courses in college was The Study of Stephen Sondheim, for goodness sake! I apologize for the theatre major in me lashing out a bit...believe me, it's more embarrassing for me than any of you reading this.
However, I still got chills when watching the trailer. Maybe it's the Disney magic, maybe it's the music (most likely), but it got me. I'm hooked. Every actor has very big shoes to fill, and I can't wait to see how it is done.
Oh, and then there's this guy. THAT'S enough for me. :)
