On Sunday, August 30, 2015, we hosted our third annual A Waltz Through DisneyLAND! Once again, we created a scavenger hunt to test eight teams on who could have the best day at Disneyland, this time during the 60th Diamond Celebration! Here is a short recap of the day:
Disney-Inspired Team Shirts
Disney-themed team shirts were all the rage! Everyone dressed the part! This is the very first year this happened so it was awesome. With 19 competitors, we had two teams new to the game while everyone else had already played at least once. Everyone was fantastic and really got into the spirit of friendly competition.
And we've got to point out the fabulous nails and hair bows that the teams, Girls Just Wanna Have Rum, wore to match their attire!
An Unexpected Strategy Was The Key To Win
So how do we determine who has the best day? We tested them! Each team received a booklet with a series of questions and tasks that you had to complete. It could be a question about a something on a ride or a detail around the park. We also had the category of character photo ops.
However, we changed up the scoring system this year. In years past, we usually give more points for attractions that have longer wait times. We also limited what kind of characters you could earn points for, since some are easier to find than others. This year, we made it simple: 2 points for every ride, 1 point for finding details around the park, and 1 point for unlimited character photos.
That was it. Unlimited character photos.
One team actually had a perfect score for all the questions. Perfect! Every single question right! However, another team used the unlimited character photos opportunity to rack up points, which beat out that perfect score by 9 points. P.W. and I were floored! We are still amazed at how strategy is such a big part of this game.
One Hot Day in Anaheim
Man, was it hot! The humidity had frizzed up our hair before the competition even started!
Though one could argue this was a blessing in disguise because the park was not busy at all. This made the competition much easier for our teams and relieved some stress on wait times. Half of our teams completed a good amount of their booklets before the 6pm cut off - that's how nice the park was! We've had quite a few requests for a holiday or spring competition date and it is definitely something we want to look into. A Christmas one would be so pretty!
And Now The Winners!
3rd Place: Girls Just Wanna Have RUM! (108 points)
Formerly known as Pop, Lock, and Dinglehop, this is the second year this duo has joined the Waltz.
Though they placed third, they are definitely first place in the "most fashionable" award!
2nd Place: Practically Perfect in Every Gay (111 points)
Always a joy to have, this team placed second for the second time.
You better believe they're coming back with a vengeance next year!
1st Place: Ladies and the Tramp (118 points)
The underdogs won the game! PUN INTENDED!
One of the new teams to the Waltz, they risked a new strategy that ultimately paid off. Congratulations!
MANY MANY THANKS to all our wonderful competitors! We always have a wonderful time hosting this event and we can't wait for the next one! Keep following us on Facebook for the latest news for future events!
