Season 2, Episode 18: “A Flower for Minnie” 5/29/15
Starring: Mickey Mouse
Co-starring: Donald Duck, Goofy, Pete and Minnie Mouse
Setting: Around town
Plot: Mickey wakes up all bright eyed and bushy tailed, champing at the bit to present his gal, Minnie, with a flower.
Both Mickey and Minnie’s houses resemble their Toontown iterations from Disneyland.
With the framed pictures and funky breakfast plate, Mickey’s home plays like a shrine to Minnie.
That’s Donald playing the piano in Mickey’s kitchen.
Goofy makes an appearance as a fastidious gardener.
Peg-leg Pete joins the fun as a police officer who is monitoring the parade.
We haven’t seen a good nipple or butt crack in a while… thanks, Mickey!
Not to say it actually is… but with its floral floats and marching band, the parade looks a lot like Pasadena’s Tournament of Roses.
Final Grade: A-
I’m a sucker for a good song and dance number and that opening act was enough to earn this short its high mark. Although not nearly quite as good, this episode reminded me an awful lot of last year’s Shorty winner for Best Short, The Adorable Couple. When I read the description, I thought for sure it’d be a yawner but it had just enough wit, whimsy and music to carry this, otherwise, flimsy plotline. Mickey’s performance stands out especially but Donald (on the ivories!), Goofy and Pete also make strong, albeit brief, appearances.
